Border tensions, Make in India

According to Sipri, Indian annual defense spending rose 0.9 percent from 2020, and 33 percent from 2012 – a sign of the ongoing border situation with China and Pakistan and Indian encouragement towards the development of more native weapons. In the midst of the ongoing tension and border disputes with China and Pakistan who occasionally spill into armed clashes, India has prioritized the modernization of the armed forces and independence in weapons production. On the way to strengthen the original weapons industry, 64 percent of capital expenditure in the military budget India 2021 is intended for the acquisition of weapons produced domestically, “said Sipri.

According to the report, the increase in Indian expenditure forms a part of the overall global increase in military expenditure, “because the figure of international consolidation crossed the $ 2 trillion sign for the first time, due to economic recovery throughout the world after the break-up of the Covid-ALly 19 Pandemi”.

Exports to Myanmar

However, India is only Myanmar’s third largest supplier, on 17 percent, behind China and Russia each on 36 and 27 percent, data shows. At the same time, India reduced its arm imports while still remaining among the largest importers in the world, said Sipri.”Because of the assumption that was felt to grow from China and Pakistan and because of a significant delay in the production of its main weapons, India had a big plan for weapons imports,” Sipri said in his report. “Therefore, the decline in Indian weapons imports, therefore, may be a temporary result of a slow and complex procurement process and its shift in suppliers.”
