New Delhi: India managed to test the extended multi-barrel rocket launcher system in the current Pokhran range, said the research organization and defense development (Drdo).
The system, which is an upgraded version of Pinaka Rockets before, has been designed by Drdo, a development laboratory and a Pune-based high-energy research laboratory.
“Drdo, along with the Army, a series of industrial performance evaluation tests produce rockets in the field shooting range for the past three days,” said the Ministry of Defense statement.
“In this trial, the increase in enhanced pinaka circuit was fired in a different range with various warhead capabilities. All the purpose of the trial was satisfactorily,” added the statement.
In addition, the “proximity fuzes” developed significantly for pinaka rocket has also been tested, informed defense information.
Multiple Rocket Launcher Pinaka which has been used by the Indian Army for more than a decade, will now increase reach, Drdo gets information.
Although the range is unknown, the Pinaka MK-i rocket system has a range of about 40 km while the Pinaka II variant can reach the target of 60 km.
In June this year, Drdo Test-Fired 25 Enhanced Range Rockets Pinaka version. This is done in rapid succession mode as part of a saturation attack simulation.
Two different variants were simultaneously tested fired from the Pokhran Range by Drdo in December this year too.
Both tests are successful.
