Shanghai’s main Chinese financial center extended transportation restrictions on Tuesday after all day testing intensive cities saw new cases soar to more than 13,000, without ending with locking.
After initially took a fewer approaches to minimizing economic disorders, Shanghai imposed two-stage locking last week when the authorities struggled to load what had become the largest Covid-19 outbreak in the city.
Lockdown initially ended on Tuesday in the western district of the city, but now it has been extended until further notice.
Shanghai reported a record of 13,086 new Asimptomatic Coronavirus cases on April 4, the city government said on the official Wechat channel on Tuesday, up from 8,581 days earlier, after the supervisory testing program in all cities which saw more than 25 million people with 24 hours.
The case of symptoms falls on Monday to 268, from 425 the day before. The proportion of official symptomatic infections is still far lower than all over the world, which experts are associated with proactive city screening processes.
At least 38,000 personnel have been deployed to Shanghai from other regions in the country’s media described as the largest national medical operation since the closing of Wuhan at the beginning of 2020.
Authorities announced on Monday that further restrictions will be placed in the city transportation network from Tuesday, with more suspended subway lines.
Sun Chunlan, Vice Premier China is responsible for Covid-19’s response, said during the inspection of the testing location in Shanghai on Monday that prevention and control work is now on “critical point” and it is very important that every citizen is tested.
When community members continued to express concern about Draconian Shanghai’s steps, sharing videos on social media, Sun urged grass party organizations to “do everything possible” to help residents solve their problems.
Analysts outside China have warned about the economic costs of the campaign of the country’s work to curb infection.
“What is the most striking in Shanghai is the difficulty that the authorities are in managing logistics, especially conditions at centralized quarantine facilities,” said Michael Hirson, Chinese analyst with the Eurasian group consultation.
“Given that Shanghai has a very capable government, the current problem causes a warning for local governments in China where capacity is not as high and large outbreaks can stretch the resources farther to the limit,” he added.
Nationwide, China reported 1,235 Coronavirus cases confirmed for April 4, down from 1,405 the day before, including 1,173 local transmissions. The number of new asymptomatic cases reached 15,355, compared with 11,862 the day before.
